Itinerary
Morning: Departure and Drive to Lake Manyara
Your safari typically begins with an early departure from Arusha or another nearby town. The drive to Lake Manyara National Park takes a few hours, passing through rural Tanzanian landscapes.
Afternoon: Game Drive in Lake Manyara
Upon arrival at Lake Manyara, you’ll embark on your first game drive. This park is known for its diverse habitats, from the lush groundwater forest to the open savannah and the alkaline lake itself. Expect to see a variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and perhaps even the famous tree-climbing lions.
After a rewarding afternoon of wildlife spotting, you’ll head to your lodge or campsite near Lake Manyara for dinner and overnight stay. Many accommodations offer stunning views over the park and its surroundings.
Morning: Drive to Tarangire
After breakfast, you’ll leave Lake Manyara and head towards Tarangire National Park. The drive takes a couple of hours, during which you can enjoy the changing landscapes and possibly see Maasai villages along the way.
Afternoon: Game Drive in Tarangire
Tarangire is known for its large population of elephants and baobab trees. During your game drive, you can expect to see these majestic creatures, as well as other wildlife such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and numerous bird species. The park’s landscape is varied, with riverine forests, swamps, and savannah, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife photography. As the sun sets, you’ll return to your lodge or campsite within or near Tarangire National Park for dinner and overnight stay. Many lodges are strategically located to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities.
Morning: Final Game Drive
Early morning is an ideal time for wildlife viewing when animals are most active. You’ll head out for a final game drive in Tarangire, making the most of your last hours in the park. This is a great time to look for predators on the move or catch the sunrise over the savannah.
Late Morning: Departure
After the game drive, you’ll typically have a late breakfast or brunch at your lodge before starting your journey back to Arusha or onward to your next destination. The safari concludes with drop-off at your hotel or at the airport, depending on your travel plans.
