Itinerary

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins as soon as you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Our team will greet you and transfer you to Kigongoni Lodge in Arusha. Here, you can enjoy the serene environment and mountain views, relax by the pool, and attend a briefing with your guides who will provide essential information for your trek.

Accommodation: Kigongoni Lodge or a similar option in Arusha.

  • Hiking Time: 7 hours
  • Distance: Approximately 18 kilometers
  • Habitat: Montane Forest

After an early breakfast, you’ll be picked up from Arusha and driven to Machame Village. From there, you’ll proceed to the Machame Gate, depending on road conditions. After registration, your ascent begins through the rain forest, with a lunch stop midway. You’ll reach Machame Camp in the late afternoon where your tent will be set up by the porters. Expect a chilly night as temperatures can drop to freezing.

  • Distance: Approximately 9 kilometers
  • Habitat: Moorland

Start early with a climb to the forest’s edge, followed by a gentler ascent through moorland. After lunch, continue up a rocky ridge to the Shira Plateau, reaching Shira Camp with stunning views of the Western Breach and glaciers. Night temperatures will be very cold.

  • Distance: Approximately 15 kilometers
  • Habitat: Semi-desert

Today’s trek takes you east into a semi-desert landscape. After reaching Lava Tower at 4630m, you’ll have lunch and then descend to Barranco Camp, benefiting from the acclimatization. The descent offers great photo opportunities of the Western Breach and Breach Wall. Expect a memorable sunset while dinner is prepared.

  • Hiking Time: 7 hours
  • Distance: Approximately 13 kilometers
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

You’ll start the day by climbing the Great Barranco Wall, then proceed through the Karanga Valley and over ridges to Barafu Camp. This exposed and inhospitable camp will be your base for the night before the summit attempt. Prepare your equipment and get an early rest.

  • Hiking Time: 8 hours to Uhuru Peak, 7-8 hours to descend to Mweka
  • Distance: Approximately 7 kilometers ascent, 23 kilometers descent
  • Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit

You’ll begin your ascent at 23:30, heading towards Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak. After reaching the summit and enjoying the magnificent sunrise, you’ll descend back to Barafu Camp for a rest before continuing to Mweka Camp. Expect a mix of terrain including rock, scree, moorland, and forest.

  • Distance: Approximately 15 kilometers
  • Habitat: Forest

After breakfast and a celebration with your crew, you’ll descend to Mweka Gate. Upon signing out and receiving your certificates, you’ll continue to Mweka Village for a hot lunch, followed by a drive back to Arusha for a well-deserved rest and more celebrations.
