Day 1: Pick-up from Kigali, Rwanda, and cross to Bukavu (about a 7-hour drive).
Depending on your location in Kigali, our business representative/driver will pick you up and drive you for approximately 7 hours via Nyungwe National Park, which includes spectacular rolling hills in Rusizi, with stops for lunch and refreshment. Cross the Cyangugu border to Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. Upon arrival in Bukavu, the closest town to Kahuzi Biega, proceed to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Hotel Panorama.
Day 2: Lowland gorilla trekking—Cyangungu and back to Kigali
After breakfast at the resort, proceed to the park headquarters for a 45-minute briefing on the Eastern Lowland gorillas. You will then go on your exciting adventure with lowland gorillas in the Kahuzi lowlands, where you will see a variety of animals, birds, and primates. Depending on their movements, your experience in the jungle can last anywhere from one to six hours, during which you can watch them interact and play while taking photographs and videos.
You will then descend to meet your driver and travel back to Rwanda. You will cross and return to your accommodation for dinner, followed by an overnight stay at Emeraude Resort the night before.
Day 3: Drive to Volcanoes National Park (about 7-8 hours).
Have breakfast at your accommodation early in the morning and then meet your guide. You will next drive for around 7-8 hours to Musanze, a village near Volcanoes National Park. Arrive at your hotel or lodge in the evening, check in for dinner, and stay overnight at the Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel (Luxury).
Day four: Golden Monkey Trek and Ibyi’wacu Village Tour.
After an early morning meal, go to the park headquarters for a briefing before hiking into the jungle in search of golden monkeys. Tracking golden monkeys offers vistas of other primates, like black and white Colobus monkeys and Olive baboons, among others. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Iby’iwacu traditional hamlet, also known as the ‘Gorilla Guardians hamlet.’ Watch stunning dancing and singing performances by the local intore dance group, as well as take a tour of the King’s Palace to learn more about Rwanda’s fascinating culture.
