5 Days Volcanoes and Nyungwe Primates Safari
Day 1: Pickup in Kigali and go to Volcanoes National Park.
Your driver guide will meet you at Kigali International Airport upon your arrival. After a brief meet and greet, your driver guide will brief you about your safari, enjoy lunch in Kigali, and then drive for three hours to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival at the park, you will embark on a cultural tour of Ibyi’wacu village.
Later, you’ll check into your lodge and rest up. You will have dinner and spend the night at either Tiloreza Volcanoes Eco Lodge (Midrange) or Mountain View Gorilla Lodge (Luxury).
Meal Plan: Enroute Lunch and Dinner.
Day 2: Gorilla Trek
Breakfast will be provided early. The briefing begins at 7 a.m. Your guide will highlight key characteristics about the gorillas you’ll be trekking. The walk might last anything from one to seven hours.
Trekking over the steep bamboo hills and eventually coming upon the gorillas hidden in the bush is an inspirational and fortunate experience. Once you arrive at the gorillas, you have one hour to spend with them while standing 6 meters away. After this spectacular meeting, you will reconnect with your driver/gguide and travel back to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. After lunch, you will return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, as described above. Tiloreza Volcanoes Eco Lodge (Midrange) or Mountain View Gorilla Lodge (Luxury)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park (about 7-hour trip).
After a delicious breakfast, check out of your accommodation and head to Nyungwe Forest National Park, stopping for lunch along the way. Spend your dinner and overnight stay at either the Budget Gisakura Visitor Centre or the Middle Range Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch on the Way, and Dinner

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
Enjoy breakfast and attend a briefing before entering Nyungwe Forest to look for lively and playful companions. Chimpanzee hikes in Nyungwe start at 5 a.m., so arrive at the park’s briefing site early and bring a packed lunch from the lodge. Chimpanzees are simple to detect because they hop from one tree to another while talking and laughing. Chimp tracking often takes 4 hours or more, depending on the location of the chimpanzees. Once you’ve discovered the chimps, you’ll get one hour to spend with them.
After lunch, you will follow a walking route to the Canopy Walk, a 50-meter-long swing bridge strung between enormous trees. You’ll be able to see the magnificent jungle from above, observing wildlife as it moves around below.
Later, travel back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay as described above. Gisakura Visitor Centre (Budget)/Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (Middle Range).
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali
Wake up at your leisure and enjoy a relaxing breakfast at the resort. Later, check out on time, meet your driver guide, and travel to Kigali with a detour to the old King’s Palace in Nyanza and the National Museum in Butare, with lunch on route. When you arrive in Kigali, your driver guide will drop you off at your hotel or the Kigali International Airport for your flight.
