4 days Nyungwe & Volcanoes

4 days Nyungwe & Volcanoes

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

In the morning, the driver will pick you up from your Kigali hotel and transport you south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will stop in Butare to see the Rwandan National Museum and the King’s Palace in Nyanza, with lunch on route. Dinner and sleep at Gisakura Visitors’ Centre (Budget) or Nyungwe Top Hill View (Middle Range).

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking, canopy walk, and transfer to Gisenyi.

Enjoy breakfast and attend a briefing before entering Nyungwe Forest to look for lively and playful companions. Chimpanzees are easy to see as they bounce from one tree to the next, talking and laughing. Chimp tracking typically takes roughly three hours. You’ll then eat your packed lunch and return to the base, where you’ll meet your driving guide.

After your packed lunch, you will go on a guided nature walk along the famed canopy walkway bridge, which is a 50-meter-long swing bridge hung from enormous trees. You will be able to observe the spectacular rainforest from a bird’s-eye view, witnessing wildlife moving about below you before returning to your hotel to relax for the evening. This walk only takes two hours. Later, meet with your guide and travel back to Kigali. Upon arriving in Kigali city, you can opt to have your driver drop you off at your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay at Kivu Serena Hotel (Luxury), Kivu Gorilla Lodge (Midrange), or Paradise Malahide (Budget).

Day 3: Visit Volcanoes National Park and Ibyi’wacu Village.

Have a relaxing breakfast at your hotel. You will then meet your driver guide and go on a short tour of Kigali City, visiting interesting sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, Kimironko Market, and Caplaki Craft Village. You will then have lunch before driving to Volcanoes National Park, where you will embark on a cultural tour of Ibyi’wacu Village, also known as ‘the gorilla guardians’ village. Enjoy the local intore dance troupe’s dancing and singing performances before seeing the former king’s palace. Later, travel to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Virunga Resort Inn & Spa Hotel (Luxury), Muhabura Hotel (Budget), or Tiloreza Eco Lodge (Middle Range).

Day 4: Gorilla Trek and Transfer Back to Kigali.

Breakfast will be provided early. The briefing begins at 7 a.m. Your guide will highlight key characteristics about the gorillas you’ll be tracking. The walk might last anything from one to seven hours.
Trekking over the steep bamboo hills and eventually coming upon the gorillas hidden in the bush is an inspirational and fortunate experience. Once you arrive at the gorillas, you have one hour to spend with them while standing 6 meters away. After this spectacular meeting, you will reconnect with your driver or guide and travel back to your resort for lunch and relaxation. After lunch, you’ll be transferred back to Kigali, arriving in the evening. Drop-off at the airport or your accommodation in Kigali.
