4 days Akagera and Volcanoes National Park Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park and the Ihema Boat Cruise.
Your driver guide will meet you at your agreed-upon location in Kigali and transfer you to Akagera National Park, where you will arrive in time for a late afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you will see hippopotamuses, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species that live in the lake and surrounding swamps. Dinner and stay at Akagera Game Lodge (Midrange) or Karenge Bush Camp (Budget).
Day 2: Early morning game drive and transfer to volcanoes.
Rise early and go for a game drive, excited to witness the many animals that rise early to graze and predators searching for their early morning meal. After the game drive, return to your driver guide to begin your travel to Volcanoes National Park, which includes lunch on route. Arrive in the park in the late afternoon and settle into your hotel or lodge. Dinner and sleep at Muhabura Hotel (Budget) or Tiloreza Eco Lodge (Middle Range).
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Ibyiwacu Village Tour.
After breakfast and a briefing from RDB authorities, we left out for gorilla trekking. This gorilla trekking excursion is a once-in-a lifetime adventure. The rangers will lead you deep into the bush in search of gorillas.
You’ll go up and down the difficult terrain until you find these peaceful critters, whose company you’ll enjoy for an hour. The activity in Rwanda might last 3-5 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas. In the afternoon, you will go on a cultural visit to Ibyiwacu village, where you will engage in cultural activities with a local guide. Visit the King’s Palace to learn about Rwandan culture through dancing and singing performances by the local intore dance troop. Return for dinner and an overnight stay at Muhabura Hotel (Budget) or Tiloreza Eco Lodge (Midrange).
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trek and Transfer to Kigali.
Wake up to a delicious breakfast amid the misty volcanic forest before driving to the park headquarters for a briefing. Following your briefing, you will begin on a guided journey into the jungle in search of golden monkeys, which might take 3-6 hours or longer depending on their location. Once you’ve discovered a group, you’ll spend an hour with the primates before eating your packed lunch and returning to base. After meeting up with your driver guide, you will return to Kigali, where your driver guide will drop you off at your hotel or airport for your next trip.
